In the courtroom, the representative of the Special Prosecution, Dritan Prençi, presented the defendant with transcripts of conversations obtained during the investigation, which raise questions about promises and interventions during the election campaign.
According to the case file materials, in one recording Shkreli is heard telling a resident: “You’ll have it done by Tuesday, just make sure you’re not delaying us, just for Toma, fire! As if it were for me, I know it for honor.”
The prosecutor directly asked the mayor what these words meant, as well as another expression of his where he said: “We can’t wait for the state because the state has it in balance” and “Today they brought me the cost estimate.”
Faced with these questions, Shkreli defended himself by claiming they were just jokes and that his aim was simply to ensure broad participation in a political event.
After this hearing, the court decided to postpone the proceedings for final conclusions. The next session is scheduled for September 17 at 10:00 a.m., when SPAK is expected to submit its sentencing request.
Details from the courtroom confrontation:
Prosecutor Prençi: As the defendant, you have some phone conversations where you say to someone: “You’ll have it done by Tuesday, just make sure you’re not delaying us just for Toma, fire! As if it were for me, I know it for honor.” What are these communications about?
Also, at another point you say: “We can’t wait for the state because the state has it in balance.” Explain what you meant by that? And then, “Today they brought me the cost estimate,” you said.
What work did you actually do for him?
Shkreli: It was a light expression to convince them that I could solve their problem. When I said “fire,” I was referring to getting as many people as possible to Tom Doshi’s rally.
Prosecutor Prençi, reading other recordings obtained from surveillance of the mayor’s conversations with residents and OSHEE employees: You communicated with Franga Kola and said: “There’s the closed foursome there…”
