Elon Musk is weighing the possibility of merging SpaceX and Tesla, a move that would create one of the world’s largest technology groups.
According to the BBC, special committees have been set up to consider the matter, but the parties have not reached a final agreement so far.

Musk has publicly expressed support for a merger, arguing that combining the two companies would bring significant benefits. However, he has acknowledged that a deal is not certain and would require shareholder approval.
Estimates cited by the BBC value Tesla at around $1.5 trillion and SpaceX at around $2 trillion. If completed, the combination would be among the largest corporate transactions in history.
The next step would depend on a vote by Tesla shareholders. The article notes that the plan would need support from holders of half the shares, a threshold Musk has described as a considerable obstacle.
One factor that could drive the plan is the possibility of combining the companies’ technological capabilities.
Tesla makes electric vehicles and develops autonomous driving systems, humanoid robots and artificial intelligence technologies. SpaceX, meanwhile, operates rockets, satellites and telecommunications services, and is also looking to expand into computing infrastructure and data centers.
A shared structure could give the companies the opportunity to pool technological resources and accelerate the development of integrated projects.
The idea of a merger is also linked to Musk’s long-term ambition to explore space and build a self-sustaining settlement on Mars.
In this context, Tesla’s technologies in energy, robotics and artificial intelligence could be combined with SpaceX’s expertise in space transportation and satellite communications.
However, these are only potential strategic benefits and do not guarantee either that the merger will be completed or that joint projects will succeed.
The possible plan also raises concerns among investors. Investment analyst Dan Sheehan has said that Tesla shareholders could end up owning a smaller stake in a significantly larger and more complex company.
Valuing such a structure would also be difficult, as there is no direct precedent to show with certainty how such a combination would be valued by the market.
Following reports about the possible plans, SpaceX shares rose 8% in after-hours trading, while Tesla shares gained 2%, according to the BBC.
