Poll in Serbia: Albanian Coalition projected to win two seats

A projection by CeSID and Ipsos, two organizations that conduct election polls in Serbia, puts the Albanian Coalition at two representatives in the Serbian Parliament, while the Student List secures an absolute majority.

According to preliminary data, the coalition has received 0.8% of the vote nationwide, a result that secures it two parliamentary seats.

Based on the ranking of candidates, the seats are expected to go to Shaip Kamberi of the Party for Democratic Action (PVD) and Visar Mehmeti of the Alternative for Change (APN).

The Albanian Coalition was formed by eight political parties from Preševo, Bujanoc and Medveđa and ran as a national minority list. As a result, it is not subject to the 3% electoral threshold that generally applies.

Seats projected by CeSID and Ipsos

The Student List ranks first with 52% of the vote and 139 seats out of the Parliament’s 250. Meanwhile, the “United Serbia” list, led by Aleksandar Vučić, has received 39.3% of the vote and 104 seats.

With 2.3% of the vote, Ivica Dačić’s “Stability Factor” list fails to enter Parliament.

Earlier in the evening, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić conceded defeat in the election, saying that data collected from his coalition’s sample showed an advantage for the Student List.

The two expected seats for the Albanians would represent an improvement compared with the previous election, when Albanian parties ran separately and the Preševo Valley was represented by only one member of the Serbian Parliament.

High turnout in the Valley, where more than 37% of voters in Preševo had cast their ballots by 7:00 p.m., together with the arrival of voters from Kosovo during the afternoon, influenced the coalition’s result.

The Republic Electoral Commission of Serbia is expected to publish the official and final results.
