Trump began the war with Iran on February 28 without first obtaining congressional approval. Meanwhile, Democrats have repeatedly voted for the fighting to end. They could also require administration officials to testify publicly about their plans.

Support for Ukraine could receive a new boost.

Although Democratic and Republican lawmakers have expressed support for Ukraine, which is facing the Russian invasion, Trump has largely halted direct U.S. financial and military assistance to the country.

This year, Trump requested an unprecedented 67 percent increase in the military budget, bringing it to $1.5 trillion. Democrats blocked the proposal in the Senate, citing the lack of consultation with Congress over the war with Iran and major cuts to social programs.
