The Democratic Party of Kosovo will today refer the formation of the Kurti IV government to the Constitutional Court. The move comes just one day after the party challenged the process of constituting the Kosovo Assembly before the same institution.

Regarding the matter, PDK Parliamentary Group leader Arian Tahiri, together with MP Përparim Gruda, will hold a press conference outside the Constitutional Court building at 9:00.
The challenge is expected to focus on the manner in which the Kurti IV government was formed. The vote on the government took place after the process of constituting the Assembly had been declared complete.
The legislature was considered constituted even though all five designated deputy speakers had not been elected, after PDK candidate Vlora Çitaku failed to secure the necessary votes.
PDK had initially temporarily withdrawn Çitaku’s candidacy, but later opposed the closure of the constitutive session before all deputy speakers had been elected.
On Monday, after the case was filed with the Constitutional Court, Tahiri said his political party was seeking an assessment of the constitutionality of the procedure followed to constitute the Assembly.
In addition to this request, PDK also asked the Constitutional Court to impose an interim measure, arguing that it was necessary to prevent further legal and institutional consequences.
Therefore, today’s challenge against the Kurti IV government is linked to the earlier objection to the constitution of the Assembly, the body that subsequently voted in the new executive.
