A series of massive Russian missile strikes hit Kyiv and the surrounding areas overnight, killing at least five people and injuring 23 others, according to Ukrainian authorities.

Residents of the capital were forced to shelter in underground spaces, including parking garages, while air-raid alerts continued in several parts of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian State Emergency Service reported that the missiles struck residential buildings and warehouses. Rescue workers are continuing to search for people who may be trapped under the rubble, and so far they have pulled one person alive from a collapsed building.
According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, a children’s hospital was damaged in the attacks. Its windows were shattered, and vehicles parked near the building caught fire.
An industrial facility in the Solomyanskyi district, in southwestern Kyiv, was also targeted.
Regional Governor Tymur Tkachenko said that in Brovary district, part of the wider Kyiv region, one man was killed and another was injured.
Ukrainian authorities had urged residents earlier in the night to move to safe locations, warning that air-defense units might be activated.
As the Russian attacks continued, the Polish military announced the launch of “preventive military aviation operations” in response to the Russian strikes in Ukraine.
Kyiv has been hit almost every night in recent weeks. Some of these attacks have caused dozens of deaths and left people seriously injured.
