Ahead of the Extraordinary Assembly, LDK MP Hykmete Bajrami has called for a change in the way the party is led. According to her, this process should be used as an opportunity for the Democratic League of Kosovo to recover.

In a lengthy post, Bajrami argued that the results of recent years make change essential, as LDK has finished third in three consecutive elections.
She called for leadership that creates unity, accepts differing views and applies meritocracy. Bajrami also stressed that LDK must not become an appendage of any other political force, but should enter elections with the goal of winning them.
In conclusion, the MP underscored that change is a prerequisite for LDK’s resurgence, unity is necessary for victory, and victory must serve Kosovo.

For LDK to recover, it must change.
This Thursday, the Democratic League of Kosovo, our political home, will face one of the most important decisions about its future.
This Assembly should not be understood as a clash between individuals, but as a decisive moment for the future we share. The LDK Extraordinary Assembly will not determine who supports the current chairman and who opposes him, nor will it decide who leans toward LVV or PDK.
What the Assembly will show is who stands with LDK.
At this point, the question is perfectly clear:
Are we satisfied with LDK’s current position?
If the answer to this question is “no,” then we must show the courage needed to make the change.
Since 2021, LDK has contested three elections, finishing as the third-largest political force in each one. We have not achieved victory even at the local level.
These are concrete results, not opinions or interpretations.
When results fall short only once, that can be attributed to circumstances. But when failure is repeated continuously, responsibility can no longer be excused by circumstances.
Following the defeat in the December 2025 elections, I asked the party chairman to resign, while at the same time I also stepped down from my position as deputy chairwoman. In other words, I did not ask him to take an action that I was not prepared to take myself. Assuming political responsibility is not a punishment; it is a democratic norm and a sign of respect for party members and voters. The current chairman came to lead LDK on the basis of that same standard.
Under the current circumstances, merely replacing one name with another is not enough for the party. LDK needs a new model of leadership.
It needs leadership that creates unity instead of producing divisions.
Leadership that listens to others and does not act vindictively.
Leadership that respects differing opinions without regarding them as a sign of disloyalty.
Leadership that values merit, dedication and contribution.
Leadership that places greater value on those who have remained than on political tourists.
Leadership that gives everyone the place they deserve and does not undermine their worth because of personal convictions.
LDK cannot serve as anyone’s reserve.
It must not be an appendage of LVV, PDK, AAK or any other political grouping.
LDK should not contest elections while calculating whose partner it will become after losing.
In every electoral contest, LDK’s goal must be victory.
It must represent the most serious alternative and be a party with a vision not only for its own future, but also for Kosovo.
Kosovo needs an LDK that does not feel inferior to those in power, but challenges them directly.
It needs an LDK for which fighting corruption is a conviction translated into concrete action, not merely a slogan for securing votes.
A party that works to free institutions from capture, ensure the independence of the justice system and apply the same standard to everyone.
An LDK that defends the market economy, private property, entrepreneurship, the strengthening of the private sector and the implementation of bold investments.
An LDK with a clear Euro-Atlantic stance, committed to cooperation with allies and to integrating the north through the rule of law, development and coordination with our partners.
However, before presenting this alternative to Kosovo, LDK must first change itself.
We cannot demand that the state operate on the basis of meritocracy while failing to apply this principle within the party.
We cannot defend democracy with words if every differing view is treated as hostility.
We cannot promise to unite Kosovo if we are unable to unite our own political family.
LDK figures are not players who should leave the field whenever they express a different opinion.
LDK is no one’s personal property. Its owners are its members, activists and the citizens who vote for it.
The upcoming Assembly should not be regarded as the end of anyone’s political career, but as an opportunity for a new and shared beginning for all of us.
Our position should not be directed against one person, but should be in support of LDK.
Decision-making should not be guided by individual interests, but by the goal of restoring citizens’ trust.
The objective should not be to participate in others’ governments, but to transform LDK into the alternative that wins.
Change is essential for LDK to rise again.
To win, it must unite.
And victory must be placed at the service of Kosovo. ✌
