SDSM leader Venko Filipče said an increase in the minimum wage is essential for citizens, particularly amid the ongoing crisis.

According to him, fuel prices have exceeded 100 denars, while food products have become significantly more expensive. Filipče stressed that some basic-basket items cost more than in Germany, while the standard of living in the country remains among the lowest in the region and in Europe.

He added that citizens are facing great difficulties and that no measure or package of measures has been introduced recently. Filipče warned that if the government continues to act in this irresponsible manner, the country could face social unrest.

Filipče also said that the minimum wage currently stands at 26,000 denars, a sum amounting to just over half the average wage of 48,500 denars.
