Guerot: The Two-Year Blockade Is Hindering Kosovo’s Progress

Olivier Guerot, France’s ambassador to Kosovo, also spoke about political developments and the lack of functioning institutions in the country. He said that during his four-year mandate he had chosen not to intervene with comments on Kosovo’s domestic politics and that he did not intend to change this position even as his term in office comes to an end.

According to him, the functioning of institutions is an essential necessity for Kosovo, especially in the process of drawing closer to the European Union.

“Over the past four years, I have not commented on domestic politics, and I will not do so in the final hours of my mandate either. To move forward, particularly toward the EU, Kosovo needs functional partners in its institutions. A president and an Assembly are needed,” the ambassador said.

Guerot said that the institutional deadlock is holding back Kosovo’s progress on its path toward the European Union.

“I am not attributing responsibility to any particular party, but as a foreign diplomat I am pointing out a clear fact: the blockade of the past two years is not serving Kosovo’s progress toward the EU,” he concluded.
