According to reports by Turkish media, 52-year-old Hüseyin Durmaz, a former police officer, used his service weapon to shoot 38-year-old Elina Şengün, who was originally from Georgia.
Police officers and medical teams immediately arrived at the scene after the shooting. The woman was rushed to hospital, but her injuries proved fatal despite doctors’ efforts.
Police arrested Durmaz immediately after the incident.
The victim, who was the mother of two children, worked as a sales consultant at the airport. She and the 52-year-old had been in a relationship for around two years.
Reports indicate that the former police officer had repeatedly threatened his partner. According to published testimony, he had told her that he would look for her at the airport if he could not find her at home in the morning.
