According to Sulejmani, during its two decades in power, DUI had the opportunity to resolve this issue but failed to do so. He claimed that the party is now blocking the process precisely at a time when efforts are being made to create a new legal framework for fair and adequate representation.
The VLEN spokesperson said that the law in question advances fair and adequate representation by elevating it from the level of a mechanism to that of a legal category. According to him, DUI’s conduct is inappropriate and runs counter to the interests of Macedonia’s Albanians. Sulejmani said that blocking this law is the same as obstructing the Law on the Use of Languages or decentralization, since all these issues constitute essential parts of the Ohrid Agreement.
He expressed hope that DUI would finally become aware of the situation and reconsider its position on the Law on Fair and Adequate Representation.
Sulejmani also referred to the adoption of the Law on the Use of Languages in 2018. He recalled that, although they were in opposition at the time and believed the law was neither an ideal solution nor a complete resolution of the issue of the Albanian language, they had nevertheless supported it. According to him, the support was provided despite the criticism, with the aim of taking a step forward toward resolving the issue.
