Citizens Mark 75 Days of Protest Against the Government, Gather Again in Square to Demand Prime Minister Rama’s Removal

This Thursday, citizens will gather outside the Prime Minister’s Office for the 75th day, demanding Edi Rama’s removal. They initially gather in Skanderbeg Square before marching along Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard to the Prime Minister’s Office.

They say they are determined not to leave the square until Rama resigns.

The protesters have now also turned marching through the streets of Tirana into a “tradition.” Their chants of “Rama, resign,” “Rama in prison, Berisha in prison,” “Arrest Rama, arrest Belinda,” “Albania demands revolution,” “Your end has come,” and others have continued unabated.

The protests initially began in opposition to the construction of a resort in the Zvërnec area, but over time they have grown into a broader civic movement due to corruption and poor governance.

Although more than 70 days have passed, the number of citizens protesting remains high, while larger rallies have been announced for August 14, 15 and 16, when members of the diaspora are also expected to take part.
