The appellate court panel of GJKKO has concluded the review regarding the murder of former police officer Santiago Malko, in a session characterized by a tense atmosphere and extreme clashes among those present.
Before the court panel, defendant Ilir Selmanaj gave a firm denial of his involvement in the sensational event of summer 2019. “I say with full conviction that I am innocent, I have no connection to this crime,” he stated during his speech in the courtroom.

These assertions immediately sparked the outrage of the victim’s mother, who was seated in the courtroom. Deeply shaken, she burst into a strong reaction, openly accusing Selmanaj and pleading with the panel: “He killed my son! Either give him 28 years in prison, or bring my son back home so I can at least see him once more and release this man!”
After these moments of heightened tension and intensive discussions, the court decided to withdraw to reach a final decision. The GJKKO Appeals Court is expected to officially announce the decision for Ilir Selmanaj, who is accused of links to the “Duka” clan in conflicts with Ervis Martinaj, on July 17.
