Cyprus has been shaken by a serious incident that took place in the early hours of this morning.
A Coast Guard police officer shot his wife with a firearm and then took his own life.

Although initial reports said the woman had died, doctors at the hospital confirmed that she was still showing signs of life. She is currently intubated and in an extremely critical condition.
The serious incident was recorded at around 06:30, inside a car where the couple had been involved in a heated argument. A passerby, after noticing the conflict and seeing the man grab the woman by the neck, tried to intervene to calm the situation.
According to the witness’s account, the officer warned him to leave and told his wife: “Tell him I’m not doing anything to you, you are my wife.” But the woman asked the passerby for help. At that moment, the perpetrator pulled out his service weapon, threatened the witness, and then first shot his wife and then himself.
Numerous officers from the Criminal Investigation Department in Limassol have cordoned off the scene and are gathering the necessary evidence to fully clarify the circumstances of this case.
