Macedonia’s Ministry of Interior said that yesterday (24.06.2026), at around 11:30 a.m., in Kriva Palanka, police from the Kriva Palanka Internal Affairs Sector arrested N.D. (45) from Skopje on suspicion of attempted fraud.
According to the statement, earlier an elderly woman from Kriva Palanka had been contacted by phone by a person who introduced himself as a doctor from Italy and convinced her that her daughter had fallen in Italy, suffering multiple fractures to her leg and jaw, and that 35,000 euros had to be paid for the operation.

As she did not have such an amount, she agreed to hand over all the money she had at home, but in the meantime she contacted her son-in-law, who advised her to notify the police. Police officers then tracked down the person and arrested him near her home.
He is being held at a police station and, once the case is fully documented, the appropriate charges will be filed against him, the Ministry of Interior said.
