A 26-year-old mother of two has died in Brazil after falling from the seventh floor of a hotel. She was leaning against a window when it suddenly gave way.
The victim, Renata Rebeca Negrão Saldanha dos Santos, was at the Rio Poty hotel in the Brazilian city of São Luís when the incident occurred at around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Security cameras captured the moments before the tragedy: Renata is seen walking down a corridor with her boyfriend, first leaning against the wall beside the window and then putting her weight on it.

The aluminum frame suddenly came loose, and she fell from the seventh floor. Her boyfriend, whose identity has not been made public, stood beside the open window for several seconds before approaching it and looking down. A hotel employee arrived in the corridor after hearing the noise; meanwhile, the man sat down and raised his hands.
According to local media, Renata landed on the awning covering the hotel entrance. She received initial medical attention, but her injuries proved fatal. Brazilian police are treating the case as an accident. Her boyfriend was initially detained and questioned by investigators, then released.
During questioning, he told authorities he had been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. George Marques, the police official leading the investigation, said no signs of violence or involvement by another person had been found so far.
“There was no push. He wasn’t even near her,” the police official said.
Investigators have also examined the window’s structure to determine why it came loose. According to authorities, there are so far no technical findings establishing the cause of her fall or indicating any irregularities.
Renata was from the city of Ananindeua and had arrived in São Luís on October 28 with her boyfriend from the state of Pará. The couple had planned to return home on Tuesday, the day the tragedy occurred. She leaves behind two children, one of them just four years old.

The 26-year-old’s body was sent to her hometown, where family and friends will lay her to rest. Her mother, Betty Negrão, spoke about the pain of her loss.

“My daughter went out to have fun, and now I’m waiting for her in a coffin,” she told local media.
Friends and relatives have shared heartfelt tributes to Renata on social media.

“Today my heart is in mourning. We lived, played and grew up together. We shared moments that time will never erase,” one of them wrote.

Family members have also launched an online fundraiser to cover the cost of transporting her body to her hometown. The Rio Poty hotel expressed its condolences over the 26-year-old’s death and its solidarity with her family and friends at this difficult time.
