This Friday, former Health Minister Ilir Beqaj appeared once again before the Special Court, in connection with the “SASPAC” case, without his defense lawyer present.
Beqaj was accompanied by a police officer, while the lawyer’s absence is linked to the legal representatives’ boycott of court hearings.

The boycott began on September 8 in protest against the new regulations of GJKKO, which entered into force on September 1. Lawyers oppose several of its provisions, particularly the restrictions on carrying and using mobile phones during court hearings.
Although on October 28 the Administrative Court of Appeal temporarily suspended the effects of the decision by the Chamber of Advocates regarding the boycott, lawyers have not yet returned to GJKKO hearings, pending an official position from the Chamber.
Ilir Beqaj is under house arrest as part of investigations into the “SASPAC” case, in which SPAK accuses him of several criminal offenses related to suspected abuses involving funds and procurement procedures.
