Authorities in Denmark will review the training program for prison guards from Kosovo after two of them were suspected of using violence against an inmate in Copenhagen. The case has prompted reactions and raised concerns about oversight and responsibilities at Gjilan Prison, where Denmark plans to send up to 300 inmates.
According to Danish media, the two guards, aged 24 and 29, are suspected of punching an inmate inside his cell on October 5 at Vestre Prison in the capital.

Both suspects have denied the allegations. They were arrested, but the courts rejected the request to remand them in custody. The investigation is still ongoing, and no final decision has been made in the case.
The Danish Prison and Probation Service announced that it would review the training of Kosovo prison guards, with the aim of ensuring proper preparation and compliance with professional standards.
Human rights organizations, meanwhile, have expressed concern about the way independent oversight is conducted, the treatment of inmates and the division of responsibilities between the two countries.
The first inmates are expected to be sent to Gjilan at the end of 2027 or the beginning of 2028. The deadline has been postponed due to delays in rebuilding the prison.
