Two people suspected of defrauding hundreds of North Macedonian citizens through a cryptocurrency scheme

A 56-year-old woman from Bitola and a 38-year-old man from Estonia are suspected of defrauding hundreds of residents of North Macedonia. They encouraged citizens to invest in a fake online platform.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs says that from December 2025 to April 2026, the suspects used a mobile app with hundreds of subscribers and promised them large profits that never materialized.

So far, police have received five reports. However, an examination of bank transactions suggests that the number of people affected may be significantly higher, as many have not reported the case.

An investigation conducted over several months in cooperation with domestic and international institutions led to the suspects’ identification. Electronic devices and cryptocurrency transactions were also analyzed.

A criminal complaint for fraud has been filed against M.K., a 56-year-old woman from Bitola, and A.S., a 38-year-old man from Estonia.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs urges citizens to be cautious of online offers promising quick wealth, especially when suspicious platforms guarantee profits from cryptocurrencies.
