A transcript published on the MAT program shows that Zekaj had gone to the police to request enforcement of a protection order against her ex-husband. In her conversation with Lieutenant Faruk Muçolli, she expressed concern about her son’s condition and asked for the ruling to be enforced. According to the transcript, Muçolli replied that he was not obliged to deal with her.
Before her killing, Zekaj had expressed fear that her ex-husband, Jeton, might kill her. “Does Jeton have to kill me?” she had asked, according to published reports.
During the conversation, Arlinda Zekaj said her concern was about her son’s mental health, which she described as impaired, and that the police had taken no action. Muçolli asked how many times she had gone to the Inspectorate about the matter. She replied that she had gone many times, even saying that she slept there.
When Muçolli asked whether she had submitted a request or complaint against the police, Zekaj said she did not know. He explained that whenever the Inspectorate contacted him, he asked her to file a written complaint. He said he had told her before that he was not obliged to deal with her because he had other duties, although she would ask for him and he would come out to meet her. He asked her to understand that he had no such obligation.
Zekaj told him she was exhausted and that all that needed to be done was to enforce the ruling. Muçolli replied that they, too, were exhausted and that, in his view, the police were acting as they should.
