Today, during a media briefing, Prime Minister Edi Rama presented a multi-point legislative package following the student protests. One of its measures includes compensation for businesses that were damaged.
He stressed that the state would cover 100 percent of the damage suffered by small businesses, and up to 70 percent for larger businesses.

He also warned the young people who caused the damage that they would pay the fines, adding that parents would be responsible for minors who took part in the protest.
“First measure: An emergency act to provide immediate compensation to small businesses. This act offers immediate financial support to those affected by break-ins, looting and fire. The state will cover between 100 percent of material damage for the smallest businesses and a minimum of 70 percent for the largest, based on clearly defined criteria and for businesses with annual turnover of up to 140,000 euros. This means that businesses that have submitted their applications along with documentation of the damage will not have to wait years for court proceedings to secure compensation. Those who took part in these acts, breaking into, destroying and damaging businesses, and whose arrest the court deemed lawful, will each pay their share of the fine for the damage. For damage caused by minors, responsibility for covering that portion of the damage falls to their parents,” Rama said.
