A large number of fish have died in the Kasharaj reservoir in Lushnjë after the water level fell significantly.

It was initially suspected that the drop in the water level could be linked to a lack of rainfall. However, according to information made public, the reservoir is being drained to make way for work that the Lushnjë Municipality is expected to carry out to reconstruct the outlet gate.
As a result of the draining, some parts of the reservoir have been left muddy and with very little water, leading to the deaths of many fish.
Footage from the site shows large numbers of dead fish scattered along the reservoir bed.
It has not yet been clarified whether measures were taken to relocate or protect the aquatic fauna before the reservoir was drained, nor how extensive the overall environmental damage is.
