The announcement was made by Economy Minister Delina Ibrahimaj, who said the decision was linked to a previously established mechanism for reducing excise duty if fuel prices exceed this level.

“Today, we made a decision that we have been discussing for some time to reactivate the Transparency Board for fuel prices. Given that the price has remained at 222 lek per liter for more than two weeks, and given that we previously decided that whenever the price exceeds 220 lek, we would activate a mechanism to reduce the excise duty, the only mechanism through which we could activate the excise duty reduction was to re-establish the board,” Ibrahimaj said. She noted that no timeframe had been set for how long it would remain in place, but emphasized that they would monitor the market.
