In this context, the focus has also shifted to security measures, accompanied by calls for restraint and the prevention of any undesirable situation. Security specialist Bedri Elezi called on citizens to exercise caution without causing unnecessary alarm, while urging the authorities to be prepared for any scenario.
He described September 16 as a date of particular importance for Kosovo, emphasizing the enormous emotional, political and social weight of the verdict concerning the KLA leaders. According to him, this very significance dictates that the responses of the public and institutions be in keeping with the situation.
Elezi acknowledged that concerns about incidents or violent unrest cannot be ignored. However, he warned that security alerts must not turn into collective fear. Such moments, he stressed, are a test in which the state demonstrates its readiness, functionality and authority.
Referring to the Kosovo Police’s well-organized structures, from local stations to specialized units, the expert added that a day with this level of sensitivity requires increased engagement, uninterrupted monitoring and immediate coordination among state institutions.
He pointed out that coordination must extend beyond Kosovo’s institutional boundaries. Close cooperation with international missions such as KFOR, EULEX and UNMIK, as well as with the Kosovo Security Force within its mandate, is vital to preventing and managing any possible scenario.
Elezi addressed the population directly, calling for calm and vigilance, as well as the immediate reporting of any suspicious activity to the authorities. He insisted that September 16 must end with honor and without acts of violence, and that institutions must be prepared for any outcome, regardless of the Special Court’s decision.
His message to citizens was clear: remain calm without being indifferent, and stay alert without giving in to fear. He urged people to immediately report to the Police any unusual movement, gathering or behavior that could endanger public safety, reminding them that security is the responsibility of society as a whole, not just of those in uniform.
The expert stressed that citizens should be ready to celebrate if justice brings the long-awaited news of the former KLA leaders’ release, but at the same time they must also be prepared for a different outcome. He reiterated that September 16 should be a day of dignity and a display of national values, not a day of unrest and chaos.
In conclusion, Elezi called for zero tolerance toward violence. He urged that any provocation or action targeting the constitutional order and public safety be prevented and met with the strongest institutional resolve. According to him, Kosovo must prove that it knows how to await a historic decision with grace and that, regardless of the outcome in The Hague, nothing can undermine its stability.
He concluded his message by summing up his appeal to the media in three key words: calm, vigilance and cooperation, reiterating the necessity of absolute intolerance toward any act of violence.
