As the verdict in the case against the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army, Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi, is expected to be announced on September 16, EULEX has announced that it is continuously assessing operational security measures in Kosovo.

In a response to Klankosova.tv, the European mission explained that its regular responsibilities also include security management, while the measures taken vary depending on developments in the situation on the ground.
EULEX stated that, within Kosovo’s three-tier security response system, it coordinates its actions with the Kosovo Police and the NATO-led KFOR. This cooperation may be intensified on September 16 if circumstances require it.
According to the mission, EULEX’s Formed Police Unit is ready to deploy as the second level of security response if requested and if such action is deemed necessary.
“Within Kosovo’s three-tier security response mechanism, EULEX works closely with the Kosovo Police and the NATO-led KFOR mission, in line with their respective roles in the security response. If requested and if necessary, EULEX’s Formed Police Unit is ready to act as the second security response, to help maintain and strengthen public order and security,” EULEX said.
Ahead of September 16, the mission called on all parties to remain calm, stressing that the security and protection of communities in Kosovo continue to be at the center of its attention.
“The message we want to convey to all communities in Kosovo is that their security and protection are our top priorities,” EULEX said in its response.
