Gashi: I am convinced there will be no early elections

Afrim Gashi, speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, says he is convinced that the country will not head toward early elections. He made the statement after a coordination meeting with the parliamentary groups, where the adoption of the Electoral Code was also discussed as part of the reforms North Macedonia must carry out as part of the European integration process.

“I think there should be no elections, and I am convinced there will be no early elections. This is my political intuition,” Gashi said during today’s press conference.

According to him, at the coordination meeting, “The Left” called for the process of adopting the Law on Elections to be unblocked. Gashi stressed that the working group already exists and that it is positive that the issue has returned to the agenda, with the aim of continuing the work of the Assembly.

“It is good that this issue is being addressed as a topic. Work must be done to adopt the law,” he said.

Asked about progress on the adoption of other important laws, including the Criminal Code and the Law on Fair Representation, as well as the public perception that the Assembly is not fulfilling its duties, Gashi said he is doing everything within his power to unblock its work. However, he emphasized that the process remains dependent on the lawmakers and political parties that have representatives in the Assembly./Telegrfi/
