Gjinovci reacts sharply to Simiq’s statement: Whoever justifies the genocidal language of Serbs falls prey to illusion

Rron Gjinovci, a well-known activist, has expressed deep indignation over the glorification of Ratko Mladić, convicted of genocide, placing this rhetoric in the context of recent political events in Kosovo.

In a post, Gjinovci warns that individuals who justify or remain silent in the face of genocidal discourse are deceiving themselves. According to him, the atrocities and ethnic cleansing carried out by Serbs originate from words and propaganda.

He paid special attention to the way Mladić is honored by a segment of the Serbian community, highlighting that during commemorations he was referred to as “protector of the Serbian people.”

For Gjinovci, the term “Serbian people” in this case goes beyond a simple phrase; he sees it as a component of an ideological project fueled by a victim mentality and extreme nationalism.

“Those who justify the genocidal discourse of Serbs are deceived. All massacres and genocides, Serbs have started and start through words,” he wrote.

Gjinovci also focused his criticism on the words of Serbian List MP Igor Simić, who during a parliamentary session stated that he represented the “Serbian people.”

The activist insisted that this statement can be read as a manifestation of a political aim for a more advanced institutional form of the Serbian entity in Kosovo, comparing it to the model of Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“Why should we have consideration for the genocidal discourse of a people that glorifies a convicted genocidaire?” he asked, adding that no tolerance should be exercised toward such stances, especially within the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo.

In closing, Gjinovci noted that Kosovo is among the most democratic states in the Western Balkans and that freedom of speech is indisputable. However, he made a clear distinction between the right to express oneself and the use of institutions to promote what he describes as “a discourse aimed at undermining the Republic.”
