Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has described the victory of the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in the regional elections in Saxony-Anhalt as a historic moment, stressing that this marks a turning point for the entire continent.
In a post on the platform X, he expressed his enthusiasm: “An extraordinary evening for Germany and Europe! I congratulate Alice Weidel, Ulrich Sigmund and the entire AfD for this convincing triumph in Saxony-Anhalt! Fasten your seatbelts, because this is just the beginning of a new wave!”

The ties between Orban and the AfD have been consolidated for a long time, with party leader Alice Weidel having made several visits to Budapest to meet with him. It is worth noting that Orban, after 16 years at the helm of Hungary, suffered a defeat in the parliamentary elections on April 12, being beaten by conservative Peter Magyar.
