In a post on his Truth Social platform, he explained that the structure, which is expected to rise to 76 meters, will have national security support capabilities. Its spaces will allow for the maneuvering and storage of drones, as well as housing sniper positions and ammunition arsenals.
Earlier, Trump had used similar reasoning for the ballroom at the White House, linking it to security requirements and uses by the armed forces.
According to the White House chief, the initiative has the backing of the U.S. armed forces and will be located near Arlington Memorial Bridge, overlooking Arlington National Cemetery.
However, the proposal has faced opposition because of the location selected and its potential impact on the landscape of monuments and historically significant areas in the U.S. capital. At the same time, the government team is preparing to begin construction, while the project is also being reviewed through legal channels.
