A deal to restore free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz could be reached soon, as negotiations between Oman and Iran have made progress, a US official told Reuters.

“Talks between Oman and Iran on the Strait of Hormuz have advanced, and we expect an agreement to be reached soon,” the US official said.
However, he stressed that any action by Washington would depend on Iran fulfilling its commitments.
“As always, US measures will be conditional on Iran implementing its commitments,” he added.
The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the world’s most important maritime corridors for the transportation of oil and gas. For this reason, an agreement ensuring protected navigation in the area is expected to have a significant impact on global energy markets.
