US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that, as of yesterday, 18 merchant ships had been stopped since the blockade resumed at the beginning of this month.
This means that two more ships were forced to change course over the past 24 hours.
According to CENTCOM, US forces have so far detained two ships and carried out two boarding inspections of commercial vessels.
The development comes amid an increased US military presence in the Persian Gulf and Washington’s efforts to restrict maritime access to Iran’s southern ports as tensions with Tehran continue to escalate.
