US-Iran conflict escalates, targets in Tehran hit by American missiles

The strained relations between Washington and Tehran have entered a new stage of war, as American forces have launched missiles that hit targets inside Iranian territory.

The US administration has threatened a “powerful military punishment” against both Iran and its Houthi allies in Yemen, at a time when the clash has extended to another key maritime point in the region.

Based on information secured from Reuters, the Iranian reaction after the American strikes was immediate, attacking US military installations in several neighboring Arab states. Moreover, Tehran has signaled that civilian facilities used by American personnel could also be targeted.

The focus of tensions remains the strategic area of the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb strait, where Houthi militants have declared a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia. The consequences on global markets have been visible after the striking of two Saudi oil tankers, causing the price of a barrel of oil to surpass the $100 threshold for the first time since May.

As a result of the ongoing threat, some shipping companies have rerouted their courses, avoiding the Red Sea and choosing passage through the Suez Canal or the longer route around the African continent. In parallel, insurance costs for vessels sailing in this sector have increased significantly.

From the White House, President Donald Trump has emphasized that Iran will bear full responsibility for the actions of Houthi fighters, warning of new military interventions. According to American press reports, the head of state has not ruled out the possibility of restarting a broad military campaign directly against Tehran.

On the other front, Iranian officials report that since the rekindling of confrontations with American troops at the end of June, the human toll has reached 59 dead and 666 wounded.

Meanwhile, Pakistan is considering the possibility of mediating the resumption of dialogue between the parties, based on a proposal supported by China. However, diplomatic sources warn that the obstacles to restoring talks remain considerable.

The human consequences of this conflict in the Middle East are severe for both sides, with the Pentagon confirming the death of 18 American servicemen and the wounding of around 100 others since the outbreak of this latest phase of violence.
