Tensions Escalate Between the US and Iran as Tehran Launches Missiles at American Targets in Jordan

After several weeks of relative calm on the military front, the United States and Iran have once again become involved in a direct confrontation, as the conflict enters its seventh month.

During the night between Sunday and Monday, on August 31, Tehran launched missiles toward Aqaba and Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, where US military personnel are also stationed.

A US official confirmed the attack to Fox News and said that almost all of the missiles had been intercepted. Washington also stated that most of the projectiles had been shot down.

The Iranian strike followed a US operation on Larak Island, where American forces destroyed two Iranian missile systems.

US Central Command described the intervention not as an “act of aggression,” but as an operation against Iranian Revolutionary Guard naval mining units. According to Washington, these units posed an immediate threat in the Strait of Hormuz.

Just a few hours after the development, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced that an oil supertanker had caught fire after violating regulations and colliding with two naval mines.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most dangerous areas of the conflict because of its key role in the international transport of oil.

Meanwhile, the confrontation has spread to other parts of the region as well. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard claimed to have attacked the United Arab Emirates, but the UAE defense minister denied the statement.
