Americans and Saudis Strike in Iraq / Pro-Iranian Militia Targets, Tehran Retaliates with Missiles at US Bases

American forces, in close cooperation with Saudi Arabia, have carried out a military operation against several militia targets linked to Iran on Iraqi territory.

In a statement, the United States Central Command confirmed that the strikes focused on supply hubs and weapons depots. According to Washington and Riyadh, these groups have orchestrated more than 30 drone attacks over the past 72 hours, operating under directives from Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps.

It is believed that the targets were part of the Hashd al-Shaabi militia network. Sources within this alliance reported that at least ten members lost their lives and several others were injured as a result of the operation.

Shortly before, Tehran launched a series of ballistic missiles aimed at American troops deployed in the Middle East. CENTCOM forces stated that they managed to neutralize all the missiles in the air before they reached their targets.

The intended target of this attack is suspected to have been an American military facility in Jordan. For its part, the Jordanian military announced that it had destroyed five of the missiles and that there were no casualties. These developments come after nearly two weeks of reciprocal bombardments between the United States and Iran.

The ceasefire negotiated last Friday was intended to open a window for talks, but the latest escalation of violence now casts doubt on peace prospects and significantly increases the risk of a wider regional escalation.
