According to the investigation, both men were at the “Principote” venue when the altercation began, which later ended with the tourist’s murder.
They had gone to the venue to work as bodyguards and were supposed to ensure security on the premises.
According to police, they failed to intervene during the altercation to prevent the situation from escalating. Following the incident, they also failed to notify the State Police authorities about the murder.
For this reason, they have been suspended from duty. Meanwhile, Miosid Matushaj has been arrested and charged with “Failure to Report a Crime” and “Failure to Take Measures to Put an End to an Illegal Situation.”
Romeo Shehu, an officer with the Gjirokastër Municipal Police, was also found to have been part of the group providing security at “Principote.”
The investigation into Shehu concerns his responsibility for failing to report the incident. The investigation file shows that two other individuals performing security duties were also at “Principote” when the altercation occurred.
Police have referred their responsibility for their actions and omissions before and after the murder to the Prosecutor’s Office.
