The flames have reached the Trodhen forest, an area covered with black pine trees, while strong winds are helping the fire spread.
The difficult terrain and strong winds have made intervention by ground forces almost impossible. An aerial operation has begun to contain the fire.
Mat Deputy Prefect Hasan Pasha said that around 90 personnel have been deployed at the scene, including employees of the Burrel fire service, Mat Municipality and the forestry service.
Despite efforts to bring the flames under control, the situation remains critical. The fire is suspected to have been deliberately started.
The livestock shelters in Trodhen are also at risk from the spreading flames. The forces deployed are attempting to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further, while the entire area has been covered by dense smoke.
