Tahiri urges that the bill on specialized chambers be sent for a second reading without delay

Besnik Tahiri, leader of the parliamentary group of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), called on the Assembly to immediately return the bill amending and supplementing the Law on Specialized Chambers and the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for second-reading consideration.

Addressing the parliamentary majority, Tahiri asked why the further processing of the law had been delayed and warned that the situation could escalate.

He recalled that, despite disruptions to the agenda, the law had been adopted in the first reading during a session with 22 votes in favor and 40 signatures. According to him, the initiative had received the support of the decision-making parties, the Democratic Party as its sponsor, the Alliance and minority representatives.

Tahiri asked what the majority, including the Self-Determination Movement, was waiting for to bring the bill back to the Assembly chamber. He raised concern over whether a greater incident, violence or further escalation of the situation around the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo was expected.

“The Alliance urgently urges VV and all members of the Kosovo Assembly to return to the chamber and adopt the law in the second reading. The rules of procedure provide for its conclusion in the second reading, while public and political commitments have already been made. Therefore, there is no justification for the delay. To put it plainly and simply: the law must come immediately,” Tahiri said.
