On December 10, the Supreme Court will review the request by former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri, who is seeking acquittal.
The Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) has also appealed the ruling and is seeking a harsher sentence. It rejects the finding that Tahiri was convicted only of abuse of office and wants him found guilty of drug trafficking and participation in a structured criminal group, and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

The Special Court of Appeal sentenced the former minister to five years in prison. Following the application of the shortened trial procedure, the sentence was reduced to three years and four months.
Tahiri served part of his sentence, but the Elbasan Court later released him before he had completed it on family grounds.
