After nearly three years of battling stage four cholangiocarcinoma, a rare form of bile duct cancer, TikTok influencer Sydney Towle has died at the age of 26.

Her family announced the news in an Instagram post, shortly after revealing that she had begun palliative care. “You will remain in our hearts forever, Sydney. I am incredibly proud of your strength. I love you,” her family wrote in the heartfelt tribute.
More than one million people followed her journey on social media, where she challenged preconceptions about what a cancer patient looks like. In her videos, she was seen traveling, dancing, surfing and living every moment with complete confidence, even while undergoing grueling treatments.
She was diagnosed in 2023 after seeking medical attention for symptoms including abdominal bloating and burning. Doctors initially suspected a hernia, but an ultrasound revealed a tumor. She was later diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, a disease rarely found in people under the age of 50.
On TikTok, Sydney candidly shared the ups and downs of her treatment, her hair loss, travels and cherished moments with loved ones, continually conveying a sense of optimism and gratitude.
She also faced malicious comments from people who questioned whether her illness was genuine. In a 2025 interview with The New York Times, she responded: “I am not a fictional character. I am a human being.”
Among the parting words she left for her community were: “Get some Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, enjoy your favorite movie and always remember that life remains wonderful. Sad things happen from time to time, but that does not mean everything is dark.”
After her death was confirmed, online platforms were flooded with thousands of messages of condolence from followers and others who said they had been deeply moved by her courage and radiant attitude in the face of her health challenges.
