Following the murder of Arlinda Zekaj, Minister of Internal Affairs Xhelal Sveçla commented on calls for him to step down. He said that his resignation would not help empower women or advance their rights.
The minister recalled that ten years ago he had withdrawn from a post, although, as he said, he was not responsible for that case. He had hoped that his action would help improve practices in that field, reports “Bota Sot”.

This time, however, Sveçla does not believe that his resignation would produce the desired result, since, according to him, the commitment to women’s rights and empowerment is complete.
He expressed support for the protesters, saying that he understood their indignation and anger following the serious incident.
