The City of Skopje has signed a contract for the purchase of 3,300 new containers, an investment aimed at improving waste management in the capital. According to the authorities, the new equipment will help keep neighborhoods cleaner, speed up the process of emptying the containers and create better working conditions for the staff of the “Municipal Hygiene”-Skopje Public Enterprise.

The head of the City of Skopje, Orce Gjorgjievski, said that the scale of this procurement differs significantly from previous investments. He said that over the past 12 years, only around 1,300 containers had been purchased in total—an amount that no longer met the city’s actual needs and had contributed to the containers becoming overfilled, as well as to waste spreading around them.
Gjorgjievski also highlighted the lower procurement cost. The price per container has been set at 9,600 denars, whereas previously the price exceeded 18,000 denars per unit.
According to the published data, the containers were secured at a price that is almost twice as low as in previous purchases, even though material prices have risen globally.
The new procurement follows the recent purchase of new municipal vehicles and is part of a broader plan to modernize the “Municipal Hygiene”-Skopje Public Enterprise. The objective is to build a more functional and sustainable system for maintaining cleanliness in Skopje.
