Kryeziu: Parliament and government must be formed before the president issue is considered

Elected lawmakers are expected to return on September 9 for the constitutive session of the Assembly of Kosovo, aiming to continue procedures that would pave the way for the creation of new institutions following the June elections.

The constitution of the Assembly has been blocked for a long time, also affecting the formation of other state bodies. Completing this process is considered essential to breaking the political deadlock, which has entered its second year of crisis.

The September 9 session will show whether political parties can reach an agreement to secure the necessary votes and make the Assembly operational. The further course of forming Kosovo’s new institutions may also depend on its outcome.

Kadri Kryeziu, a former judge of the Constitutional Court, stressed that the order of actions should begin with the constitution of the Assembly, continue with the formation of the Government, and only then address the election of the president.

“I think parliament should be constituted, then the government, and then the president if there is any agreement.

For now, every action is political,” Kryeziu briefly told “Bota sot”.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Democratic League of Kosovo, the country’s two largest opposition parties, announced on Monday that they would take part in the session to constitute the Assembly. This process paves the way for the formation of the new Government and the election of the new president.
