Publicist Nexhmedin Shehu told “Bota sot” that Serbian President Aleksandar Vuçiq has consistently maintained a hostile stance toward Kosovo.

He believes that Vuçiq’s statements regarding the Special Court’s verdict are intended to provoke a public reaction in Kosovo and damage the country’s image, so that he can portray it as equal to Serbia.
According to Shehu, Aleksandar Vuçiq’s hostile aims toward Kosovo are constant and indisputable. He says they take different forms, usually carefully prepared so that no direct evidence of their true purpose remains. In this context, he says, the Serbian president’s “predictions” about the Special Court’s decision should also be examined.
Shehu stresses that Vuçiq’s game with these “predictions” is not accidental: he initially forecast Thaçi’s release, while now he is speaking of a severe sentence, claiming in both cases that he is relying on “well-informed” sources. According to the publicist, this is part of a platform aimed at provoking a public reaction in Kosovo.
An uncontrolled reaction, he says, would serve Vuçiq’s propaganda. In this way, attention would be diverted from Serbia’s honoring of convicted war criminal Ratko Mladiq, while the Serbian president would be given the opportunity to equate Kosovo with the Serbian state’s uncivilized conduct.
The publicist says that Vuçiq’s actions against Kosovo cannot be considered accidental, but are part of an ongoing policy aimed at damaging its stability and the image it enjoys on the international stage.
Shehu explains that, in an interconnected world, the mutual dependence and impact of political actions are clearly visible both among friends and among adversaries. He says there is even less reason to believe that Vuçiq’s actions have no political background when it comes to two neighboring states with a long history of bitter hostilities.
He emphasizes that the Serbian president’s policy carries an unchanging objective: to damage everything connected with Kosovo, from its internal stability to its international reputation and standing.
For this reason, Shehu calls on Kosovo’s institutions, political parties, individuals and, above all, the media to understand their responsibility. Regardless of what verdict is issued against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi, he calls for the reaction to remain measured, dignified and democratic.
According to him, only such an approach protects Kosovo’s dignity as an inseparable part of Europe and as a representative of European values, including respect for justice and opposition to injustice through legal means.
Shehu has called for any act of violence or breach of public order to be avoided, as such a reaction, he says, would serve Vuçiq and Kosovo’s opponents.
He warns that any violent action would be unforgivable, because it would give Vuçiq precisely the opportunity he is seeking: to portray Kosovo as equal to Serbia in terms of international justice and war crimes.
If justice is absent from the trial of the four former KLA leaders, Shehu says it must be sought with determination, democratically and by using all legal means.
Concluding his statement to “Bota sot”, he stresses that peaceful protest, freedom of speech and criticism based on arguments are inalienable rights, while violence and provocations would benefit only Vuçiq and Kosovo’s opponents.
