This Saturday, a serious incident occurred in Podujevo, where a 10-year-old was wounded by a firearm. According to Kosovo authorities, a minor had taken an AK-47 and accidentally fired it while playing with the weapon.

As a result, the bullet struck his 10-year-old brother. Following the shooting, the minor was taken for medical treatment at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (QKUK) in Pristina and, according to police, is out of danger.
Following the incident, police searched the house where it occurred and found and confiscated the AK-47, along with a magazine containing 20 rounds of ammunition.
The on-call prosecutor of the Department for Minors was notified of the case and ordered that it be initiated under regular procedure, while the suspect was released under regular procedure.
“Podujevo, 21.08.2026 – 12:00. A male Kosovar complainant reported that his minor nephew had taken an AK-47 and, while handling it, had fired one round, with the bullet striking his 10-year-old child brother. The injured person was taken for medical treatment at QKUK-Pristina and is out of danger. During a search of the house, an AK-47 with a magazine containing 20 rounds of ammunition was found and confiscated as material evidence. In connection with the case, the on-call prosecutor of the Department for Minors was contacted, and ordered that the case be initiated as stated above, while the suspect be released under regular procedure,” police said.
