A married couple were injured in a serious crash on the Fier-Lushnjë highway, near the Kolonjë roundabout, in the early hours of Thursday morning. There were no fatalities.
At around 01:00, the SUV the couple were travelling in veered off the road and struck the metal barriers. After going over them, the vehicle plunged from the bridge into a canal about five metres below.

Firefighters from Lushnjë and ambulance medical staff immediately stepped in to free the couple from the vehicle. The injured pair were then rushed to Lushnjë hospital, where they are being treated for multiple injuries sustained in the crash.
Preliminary findings by the Traffic Police suggest that the driver lost control of the SUV due to high speed and very wet road conditions caused by heavy rainfall. As a result, he was unable to enter the roundabout.
The results of an expert examination are awaited to fully establish the causes, while police continue their investigation.
The Kolonjë roundabout is known as one of the trouble spots along this route. Serious crashes have occurred at this location before, including some with fatal consequences.
