Repeal of the Strategic Investments Law, Taulant Balla: Good news for flamingos, not for crows

Taulant Balla reacted after Prime Minister Edi Rama announced at the 9th Albania-EU Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels that the Strategic Investments Law would be repealed.

He linked the decision to the demands of protesters, who have long called for the law to be scrapped, describing it as positive news for the environment and the protection of protected areas.

In his reaction, Balla used symbolic language, writing that this was good news for flamingos, but not for crows. Balla sees it as a victory for those who have called for environmental protection, while viewing the law’s beneficiaries as the losers in this battle.

“Good news for the flamingos, not good news for the crows that remain here. During the 9th Albania-EU Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels, Prime Minister Edi Rama clarified that the Strategic Investments Law will be repealed, as it has fulfilled its mission, while the Protected Areas Law will be reviewed and aligned with European Union standards,” Balla wrote.

He then cited Prime Minister Rama’s words, explaining that the Strategic Investments Law would be repealed and scrapped, while the Protected Areas Law would be aligned with European standards.

“Repeal means cancellation. The Strategic Investments Law will be repealed and scrapped, while the Protected Areas Law, which is one of the best laws we have, will be adjusted until it fully meets European standards.”
