Prosecutor’s Office in Skopje Seeks Precautionary Measures for Two Suspects in Serious Domestic Violence Cases

The Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Skopje has taken action in two separate domestic violence cases and has requested precautionary measures for the suspects.

In the first case, proceedings have been initiated against a 56-year-old man for the criminal offense of “Endangering Security,” under Article 144, paragraph 3, in connection with paragraphs 2 and 1 of the Criminal Code.

As the Public Prosecutor’s Office announced, he had for a long time subjected his wife and their two children, aged 18 and 15, to physical and psychological violence. Although his aggressive behavior was ongoing, the family had not previously reported him out of fear. The case reached its peak when the 15-year-old daughter, defenseless against the threats, insults, and constant pressure from her father, attempted to take her own life.

An investigative procedure has also been opened against a 33-year-old man from Skopje, who is suspected of physically assaulting his wife. According to the information, on June 20 he forcibly dragged her toward a vehicle while threatening her, and at one point tried to strike her with a glass bottle. The woman managed to open the door and jump out of the vehicle, but the suspect stopped the car and tried to force her back inside. As a result of the violence inflicted on her, she sustained bodily injuries. This act has been classified as a criminal offense under Article 130, paragraph 2, in connection with paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.

The statement from the Public Prosecutor’s Office says that in both cases, the competent prosecutor proposed that the pre-trial judge impose precautionary measures. These measures include a ban on leaving the place of residence, an obligation to report regularly to the court, the temporary confiscation of travel documents, a ban on approaching and any contact with the injured parties, as well as a ban on visiting places where they stay or move about.
