LVV’s Pacolli: Electing the President Requires an Agreement Between the Majority and the Opposition

Fitore Pacolli of the Vetëvendosje Movement has stated that the election of Kosovo’s president cannot be based solely on the will of one party or the parliamentary majority.

In a Facebook post, she said that the Constitution and the importance of the institution require the opposition to be involved in the process of selecting the president.

“The president is not the president of one party. The president is the president of the Republic. For this reason, the candidacy should emerge from genuine political dialogue, in which the parliamentary majority and opposition sit down together to find a name that rises above narrow party interests,” Pacolli wrote.

According to her, the opposition should not view this process solely as an opportunity to obstruct the majority, nor can it act solely toward that end.

“Kosovo needs a president elected through an agreement that gives the institution of the President broader legitimacy. Responsibility in this process rests with everyone.

Ultimately, the issue is not only about the person who will be elected president, but also about the manner of their election and the legitimacy they will enjoy. Now is the time for the opposition to prove whether it is an opposition of the Republic or an opposition of blockades,” she concluded.
