On Saturday morning, a van with North Macedonian plates caught fire near a rest stop for drivers in Lushnja, close to the road leading to Këmishtajt.

The vehicle was carrying a load of small field birds being imported from North Macedonia. The driver noticed the fire after exiting the highway and turning toward Këmishtajt.
Immediately after receiving the report, firefighters from Lushnja went to the scene and intervened to extinguish the flames, which had engulfed the driver’s cabin. Although the response was swift, the damage was considerable, as a large portion of the cargo was damaged and more than half of the birds died.
According to the initial assessment by the Lushnja fire service, the flames are suspected to have been caused by a technical problem in the air-conditioning system, in the rear section where the cargo was stored. Meanwhile, the investigative team is working to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident.
