Prime Minister and leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, has started the meeting with Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) leader Bedri Hamza. The election of the new president and the advancement of amendments to the Law on the Special Court are expected to be at the center of the talks.

Bedri Hamza arrived at the government building accompanied by MP Rrahman Rama.

The Democratic Party of Kosovo has linked the discussion on the president with advancing amendments to the Law on Specialist Chambers.

The government has announced that it expects a legal opinion from the Ministry of Justice this week on the submitted proposals.

Under the proposed draft law, the PDK aims to limit the mandate of the Special Court solely to handling the crimes alleged in Dick Marty’s report, and to establish international monitoring of its work. Meanwhile, the war crimes for which four KLA leaders have been convicted are expected to be tried in Kosovo.

The Assembly of Kosovo has until October 6 to elect the new president; otherwise, the country goes to new elections.

The meeting took place after Kurti stated that communications have begun to reach an agreement on the election of the president.

“We have started communications and, of course, this weekend is decisive for reaching an agreement, so that next week we have the president,” Kurti stated.
